Slovenia will open their quest for a place at the 2026 World Cup with an away trip to Sweden in Group B. These two nations will also meet Switzerland and Kosovo. Let’s have a look at the prediction for this match.
This seems like a pretty balanced group, and Slovenia, unbeaten in the last five outings, will seek a first-ever win against Sweden. The last time they hosted this match, Slovenia lost 2-0, in the Nations League.
However, they will feel inspired for this after back-to-back friendly wins against Luxembourg and Bosnia and Herzegovina. There has been an improvement in defence too, with the hosts keeping three clean sheets in the latest four matches.
Sweden will also be confident going into the qualifiers. They come here off the back of three straight wins. Their only defeat in their last 10 encounters was a rather shocking one – against Luxembourg.
That 1-0 reverse also marked the only time in 10 matches that Sweden failed to score. The Swedes warmed up for this international break with wins against Algeria and Hungary in June.
They once again brought out their scoring prowess by netting 11 times in their last three games. Three times in the last five outings, Sweden scored at least four goals. Meanwhile, they won eight times in the last 10 matches.

Slovenia will bank heavily on their scoring form at home, and that better work, as they’ll be up against a very lethal attacking team. Sweden’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres have been called up, which should make the hosts shudder.
They do have their own goal threat in Manchester United forward Benjamin Sesko, but Sweden are on a much more stable place and should handle him. For the first time in their four meetings, both sides scored in the latest meeting. Our prediction for Slovenia v Sweden is for Sweden to win and both teams to score.
