Newcastle United blew a good chance to rise into the top half last time out in their draw with Tottenham. The Magpies took the lead twice against Tottenham but lost it and in the end drew 2-2.
They missed the chance to record three straight wins in the league, and they will be looking to end this inconsistent run. Their last three matches were against teams above them in the standings, so Newcastle should be confident of stepping up here.
They are just four points below the European football slots. Having beaten three sides below them in their home league matches, a struggling Burnley should be manageable.
Newcastle won five of their last six home games against promoted sides.
Burnley are the worst performing among the promoted sides and will not want to know about Newcastle’s record against such teams. They were once again off-color in a 1-0 midweek home defeat against Crystal Palace.
That defeat was their fifth in a row. It left them four points behind the safe zone, meaning they have at least one more week in the bottom three.
Two of the Clarets’ three league wins this season have been against fellow promoted sides, Leeds and Sunderland. The other was against the bottom-placed Wolves.
A poor away run, having lost six of their last seven in the league, isn’t inspiring at all.

For a few of the Newcastle United players, this will be a reunion of sorts. Harvey Barnes is a Burnley local, and he’ll want to extend his recent good record against the Clarets.
The winger has two goals and four assists in seven matches against Burnley. This season he has seven goals and an assist in all competitions.
Four of his goals came in the last five matches, and he will be confident of extending the same here. Two former Burnley men, Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope, will be absent with injury.
In Pope’s absence, Newcastle United have an able deputy, Aaron Ramsdale.
Jaidon Anthony has been one of the best players at Burnley this season. Playing as a winger, his five goal contributions tell the story.
He has, however, failed to score or assist in the last eight matches and will be hoping to break that streak here.
Operating in a forward line that also has Lyle Forster and Zian Flemming, who have a combined seven goal contributions, is almost a guarantee we’ll have goals here.

Newcastle United’s seven home matches have seen a total of 21 goals scored, averaging 2.5 per game. On the other hand, all of Burnley’s seven away matches produced over 2.5 goals. In five of those seven away matches, Burnley conceded three or more goals.
That, and the fact that this fixture rarely goes their way, are factors that make us believe this will be Newcastle United’s day. Aside from that, we could be heading to another high-scoring fixture as well. Our prediction for Newcastle United v Burnley is for more than 2.5 goals.

Newcastle United will definitely head into this game as the favorites, and their home form works perfectly for them. In the 12 home games they hosted this season, the Magpies have only lost three, and to formidable opposition.
They fell to Arsenal, Liverpool, and Barcelona. However, they have shown struggles in defence, only managing five clean sheets at home. Our second prediction for this match is for both teams to score.
