Seventh seed Jakub Mensik takes on the wildcard Henry Bernet in the first round of the Swiss Indoors Open. The winner of their first career matchup will play Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard or Joao Fonseca next. Read on for our prediction of the match below.
Jakub Mensik is making his Basel debut and arrives seeking to snap a two-match skid. The Czech star, who is having a breakout year, lost his opener in Shanghai last time out.
The loss followed a quarter-final finish in Beijing. Despite his recent slump, Mensik has had a tremendous year and has won 32 matches competing mainly on the tour. The world number 19 had a shocking run in Miami, where he won his maiden tour title.
Henry Bernet is competing in the main draw of a tour event for the first time in his young career. The 18-year-old Swiss is having a strong season and has lost just seven of 23 fixtures.
Competing largely in the ITF circuit, Bernet has won two titles, all on home soil. Currently ranked 481st in the live ranking, Bernet is coming off a second-round exit in the Roanne Challenger.
The teenager has spent most of his time this year on clay courts, with 20 of his duels taking place on such surfaces.

Our prediction for Jakub Mensik v Henry Bernet is Mensik at -4.5 on games played. Mensik is the overwhelming favourite to win this match. Though he is only two years older than Bernet, he is the more experienced tour player in this tie.
He is having a breakthrough year and has won 34 matches and a tour title. Facing a homegrown talent like Bernet will not be easy, with the crowd in Basel expected to be fully behind their young star. Mensik’s recent struggles are likely to have Bernet believe in his chances here. However, the Czech player’s experience and comfort level on indoor surfaces should see him through.
