Alex Michelsen will look to build on the good form shown in Almaty last week. Round one of the Erste Open in Vienna sees him face fellow unseeded player Francisco Cerundolo. Here's our match prediction.
The winner of this indoor hard court match will be up against either eighth-seed Alexander Bublik or unseeded Alejandro Tabilo in round two. Michelsen will hope he'll be the one having that match.
The American made it to the last four in Almaty last week. It was a return to form for him after losing five successive matches. He was eventually beaten by Corentin Moutet. That was his second ATP Tour hard court semi-final of 2025 and he's now 34th in the live rankings.
Francisco Cerundolo lost his only previous match against Michelsen but that was played on a grass court. He's playing his first tournament since the Shanghai Masters where he lost in round three to Zizou Bergs.
That defeat made it three losses in his last four matches. Cerundolo has a 13-9 hard court record this year (compared to 17-16 for Michelsen). He has reached two ATP Tour hard court quarter-finals this year but none in the past seven months and is 21st in the live rankings.
