AC Milan currently sit outside the automatic qualification places for the round of 16. Sergio Conceicao’s men can still finish amongst the top six as they are only a point off.
As things are tight going into this stage, they might have to win both of their remaining matches, starting with Girona’s visit to stand a chance. Only five points separate the team in third place from the team down in 24th.
The Rossoneri, who have amassed 12 points, have won their last four games in Europe. They defeated Red Star Belgrade 2-1 at home on matchday six.
Milan are, however, coming off a 2-0 league defeat to Juventus that snapped an eight-game unbeaten run.
Girona’s hopes in Europe hang by a thread after winning once in six matches.
This is a must-win match for Girona as defeat here will end their hopes of progressing to the second round of the competition. Miguel Michel’s men have won just one of their six matches and sit tied on three points with three other teams.
Their only chance of qualifying for the round of 16 proper is through the playoffs and they are currently five points off. The Spanish side, who are making their Champions League debut, are on a three-match losing run in the competition.
In all three losses, they failed to find the back of the net. The Red and Whites were defeated 1-0 at home by Liverpool on matchday six.
Most recently Girona lost 2-1 at home to Sevilla in domestic league action that snapped a two-match winning run.

Milan are set to have Alvaro Morata back for selection this week. The striker missed the loss to Juventus over the weekend due to suspension. While this is good news, Milan have some bad news to contend with.
Fikayo Tomori is unavailable through suspension while Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Malick Thiaw, Sammy Chukuweze are all out injured. Alessandro Florenzi remains a long-term absentee.
Christian Pulisic is listed as a doubt for this game through injury but Milan will hope he recovers from a muscular strain.
Girona are dealing with fewer injuries than Milan which should boost them.
Girona are faring much better on the injury front than their soon-to-be hosts which is a big boost.
Striker Arnaut Danjuma is likely to miss this match due to illness while Bojan Miovski is expected to shake off an ankle injury, which is also troubling defender Miguel Gutierrez.
Yaser Asprilla returned over the weekend after spending weeks out while Portu is also back in contention.

Our prediction for AC Milan v Girona on the goals market is for this match to see over 2.5. Milan have been in terrific form in Europe and key to this has been their vibrant attack. They have registered 11 of their 12 goals in their last four outings, scoring three goals on three separate occasions.
With goal difference expected to be a huge factor at the end of the group stage, Milan will seek a big win here. We are likely to see a high-scoring outcome given that Girona have this as a must-win match for them.
Milan to win
As a second prediction, we will pick Milan to win. The hosts have won each of their last four matches in Europe whereas their visitors have lost three consecutive games in the competition.
